Purification in the manufacture of drug products
For many years Merck has been working on cutting-edge technologies particularly in preparative chromatography. Merck's aim is always to develop processes optimally, implement them in production and adapt them to growing production volumes. Preparative chromatography is used as a purification method in the manufacture of complex drug products. Four classes of drugs in particular are manufactured intensively by means of chromatographic processes: enantiomers or isomers, drugs from natural product extracts, complex peptides and recombinant proteins.
Support at all levels
During development and optimization of these purification processes, Merck supports its customers with products, services and training in biochromatography and silica gel chromatography. Many projects have already been executed in this way, such as in the case of small and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies that do not develop their own processes. While Merck contributes its expertise on process optimization, customers can focus on their core competencies and thus also reduce their time-to-market for products.
